Websites and marketing for professional and B2B services

Have they solved this exact problem before, for somebody like me. Answer it with evidence rather than adjectives and the enquiry follows.

B2B buyers research quietly and at length, then arrive ready. Almost none of them fill in a form on the first visit, which means a professional-services site is judged on whether it looks like it knows what it is talking about, not on how many calls to action it has.

How customers actually find a firm

Through search for a specific problem, through referral, and increasingly through being cited in an answer somebody asked an AI. The common thread is that they read several pages before contacting anyone, and the decision is largely made before the first conversation.

What they type

  • [service] consultant [town]
  • how to [specific business problem]
  • [service] for small business
  • [service] vs [alternative]
  • best [service] firm near me

Bracketed parts are wherever you are and whatever you sell. These are phrasings, not a keyword list to stuff into a page.

Four things professional and B2B services get wrong online

  1. The site says what you are, not what you fix

Consultancy sites open with the firm. Buyers arrive with a problem and scan for it. A page that names the problem in its first line outperforms one that leads with a mission statement, every time.

  2. No evidence anybody can check

Claims of expertise are free, so they carry nothing. A written case, a named result, a published article that demonstrates thinking — those are the things a buyer can verify, and verification is what they are doing.

  3. No named people

Professional services are bought from people. A site with no names, no faces and no backgrounds is asking for a decision on trust while withholding everything trust is built from.

  4. Everything funnels to "book a call"

It is too big an ask on a first visit. Something to read, download or work through gives a cautious buyer a smaller step, and identifies who is actually interested.

If you change one thing

Writing about the firm instead of the problem. Every page opens with who you are; buyers arrive knowing only what is wrong, and leave when they cannot find it named.

A firm we built for

  • Burrs Consultancy A consultancy in Indore that had no credible front door. Built to lead with the problem rather than the firm.
