Websites and marketing for gyms and fitness studios
Will I feel out of place, and what does the first visit involve. Answer the nerve, not the equipment specification.
Fitness is bought on nerve, not on features. The person considering your studio is worried about being the least fit one there, and the site that shows real members and makes the first visit feel small wins over the one listing equipment.
How customers actually find a studio
Map searches for anything nearby, social for anything class-based, and a heavy seasonal spike in January that most studios plan for far too late. Almost everyone visits the site before visiting the studio.
What they type
- gym near me
- [class type] classes [town]
- personal trainer [town]
- gym membership prices [town]
- beginner [class type] near me
Bracketed parts are wherever you are and whatever you sell. These are phrasings, not a keyword list to stuff into a page.
Four things gyms and fitness studios get wrong online
-
The timetable is a photograph
A picture of a spreadsheet is unreadable on a phone, invisible to search engines, and always slightly out of date. The class timetable is the most-visited thing on a fitness site and usually the worst built.
-
Membership prices are hidden
Withholding price to force an enquiry works on a small minority and loses the majority, who assume it is expensive and check the next studio.
-
Photographs of people who already look like athletes
The audience for a local studio is mostly people who are nervous. Imagery of members who look like them does more for sign-ups than any equipment list.
-
No obvious first step
Joining is a big commitment. A trial class, a day pass, or a first session at no charge converts the hesitant far better than a membership page ever will.
If you change one thing
Publishing the timetable as an image. Make it a real table on a page and it becomes readable, searchable, and correct — three things a photograph of a spreadsheet can never be.
What we would work on
- Local visibility & lead generation Help nearby customers find you, trust you, and call you.
- Social media marketing Look established, stay visible, without it eating your week.
- Website design & development Turn visitors into calls, leads and customers.
In that order, for this trade. The pricing is the same whatever sector you are in — a five-page site is $249 to build and $399 a year to keep running.
Have we done this before
Not in this trade yet. The work we have done is here, and the four problems above hold whichever trade the last client was in.
Straight answers
Questions from gyms and fitness studios
Yes. Hiding them is a tactic aimed at forcing a sales conversation, and it costs more enquiries than it creates. If your pricing is genuinely complicated, publish the common cases and say the rest depends.
By having the content live in November. Search interest starts climbing after Christmas and a page published on the second of January has not had time to rank for anything.
For the classes people search by name, yes. Somebody looking for a specific discipline is a much better prospect than somebody browsing gyms, and they deserve a page rather than a row on a timetable.
It is the closest to essential of any local trade, because the product is visibly social. Member results, class clips and a face people recognise do more here than in almost any other sector.
A real timetable and a low-commitment first visit. Between them they answer the two things stopping most people, and neither requires a redesign.
No, and be wary of anyone who claims to specialise in 10 industries at once. What we have is a way of working that suits small businesses — fast sites, clear pricing, no contracts — and enough time spent on studio problems to know which of them are worth money. Where we have not done work in a sector, we say so rather than dressing up somebody else's case study.
With whichever of the four problems above you recognised. Most owners know the answer before they finish reading the list. If none of them landed, the fifteen-minute call is free and we will look at what you have got.

- Real Estate Agents What have you sold near me, and what is my house worth. A site organised around those two questions beats one organised around a listing feed.
- Auto Repair and Services Can you look at it today, and roughly what will this cost me. Nothing else on a garage website is as valuable as those two answers.
