Glossary
Title tag
The title tag is the clickable headline of your page in search results, and the text shown in the browser tab.
It is one of the strongest on-page signals and the single biggest influence on whether somebody clicks. Roughly 55 to 60 characters show before it is truncated.
Why it matters to you
Most small-business titles are the section name and the company — 'Contact | Acme' — which tells a searcher nothing and wastes the most valuable text on the page.
An example
Changing 'Services' to a title naming the service and the town can lift clicks substantially without the page moving position at all.
